Is this a Target 900?

I just got one and had a similar problem. Not sure if this will help,
but this is how I set mine up.

First I unetbootin'd ubuntu-eee onto a 1GB (I assume you meant GB when
you said MB :P) SD Card, and booted to the card. I then installed to the
internal drive from the card. When trying to boot from the internal
drive, I got an error along the lines of "not valid file". This is
because when I was installing, I had booted from the SD card, which made
the SD card hd0, and the internal hd1. When booting from the internal,
the internal was now hd0, but menu.lst was looking in hd1.

I know you already tried editing menu.lst, but I suspect that's what it
is. Otherwise I have no idea. Are you getting any errors at all?

The way I got back into ubuntu-eee to edit menu.lst was by inserting the
SD card again and trying to boot from it, which for some reason
automagically made GRUB come up (no idea why), and since the card was
hd0 again, I could boot into ubuntu and edit menu.lst. Maybe you could
try that and see if you can figure anything out.

Hope this helps!
