Re: [Filemanager][Ubuntu-touch-coreapps] Why is there not a Browser or music app in the core app?

Calum,

I'm currently working on a prototype music player. My current project
<https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-music-app> currently behaves as more akin
to a glorified filemanager at the moment--but, I'd love to work with the
design team once we have more components ready to make any quality music
app viable. Again, my app is a prototype. It's beautiful only in it's
simplicity.

There's some "synergy" that might be possible between such a Music app
and the filemanager. They both need more file/media metadata and they
both would benefit from Ubuntu One (u1) integration (file and music
APIs). I've emailed briefly with Stuart (~sil, cc'd), who works on the
u1 team. These are the things currently on the table, in loose order:

1. The u1 team is going to start working on a "qml-u1" plugin of sorts,
with potentially both the "file" and "music" APIs built in. The
following are small sub questions, but the u1 team is handling the details:
    a. QtDBus with Qt5 QML bindings? Would it be best to wait for
development on Raring for this?
    b. Does Ubuntu Online Accounts (accounts-qml-module?) seem
beneficial on touch for u1? Would it simplify things?
2. I want to work with the "ubuntu-filemanager-app" group to get more
metadata into our models that access files. This would allow for more
advanced filemanager capabilities, but it would also be useful in
building a Music app library (LocalStorage of music metadata and
playlists) for music browsing.
3. Work with the ubuntu-sdk team to further proper Sound Menu
development and integration
    a. Is QtDBus needed here as well?
    b. How would components such as DLNA, bluetooth, and control from
the Sound Menu be handled?
    c. I could start mixing in Sound Menu integration into the
prototype, if that made sense.
4. Last, but certainly not least, the design of a music app. This may
not be *the* default music app. But something simplistic in design, yet
'featureful' would be where I'd want it to go.
