This works pretty well for fixing the widget sizes on the MX4:

export GU=21
adb shell 'printf "start on starting dbus\nexec initctl set-env --global GRID_UNIT_PX='$GU'\n" > ~/.config/upstart/gu.conf'

Then reboot the phone.
