Re: The one simple fix that make the Ubuntu Phone incredible

I'm really not sure why we continuously hear that Ubuntu Touch is not ready as a daily driver. Mine has been a daily driver for four months and I'm rather new to the list and messing wiht phones. Others have used Ubuntu Touch as their only phone for well over a year. If "daily driver" means the phone you use every day, then Ubuntu Touch is not simply ready to be a daily driver, it IS a daily driver for many.

Unless I'm mistaken, we can change the background for the homescreen. I took a picture of some pine trees in my backyard and that is my background. I set that when running OTA-9.1 or maybe OTA-10.

Anyway, I use mine every single day for calls, for SMS messages, for e-mail, for Facebook, for Google+ and for news. Since some folks did such a great job with ownCloud, now I use mine as my music player as well.

To me, that's a daily driver. Others might have different requirements, and that is cool. We are all different people with different expectations. But I think it is time to change the dialogue from "is Ubuntu Touch ready to be a daily driver" to something like "can Ubuntu Touch run X app or does it have something that provides a similar function."

I'm not sure how I feel about a homescreen. I tested an alternate OS that gave me an XFCE homescreen and applications on my Nexus 5. It was cool for a day. Then I realized I have a netbook and a laptop running Ubuntu, a tablet running iOS and a laptop running Windows. I don't need or want another homescreen.

It's cool that others do, and that is part of the fun of Linux. But I'm kinda happy with my phone and enjoy using every single day, making it a daily driver (at least for me).
