Dear Willfried,
I didn't find Marco's e-mail offensive. It is a criticism that
should be made visible: it's not the very first time that an
update make things worse than they were. I think some people
could learn from that message that there is a problem with
testing OTA images before release. If something make things
worse for some model, there should be no update for that model.
Just as "Apple and Google" do. There is one more difference:
both companies do not release a product that isn't finished and
care about great problems in the first line (bluetooth of my
Nexus 5 connected always with all devices after newest update).
In my opinion the Ubuntu's biggest problem at the moment is
bluetooth. Let's say it clear: it does NOT work properly for
some lucky guys, for the unlucky rest as me it doesn't work at
all (since Ubuntu 12.04; 11.10 was the last release that
connected with my Nokia properly).
And the worst of all is that this function is a very basic one.
You wrote about "forgetting paired devices" after which BT
started to work. Well... I can not even forget them on my E4.5.
Even after rm command in a terminal and ten reboots it does not
work. Sorry. And it is not only my problem:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1435040
63 people with heat 582. If I were Canonical I wouldn't make a
single step forward before Bluetooth doesn't work properly cause
it is a very root of the whole idea of convergence.
I can live with no sms sound(yes even that :-)), and all the
rest of bugs. This phone look for me as a terminal. I could make
a call from a command line :-) but bluetooth must work nowadays.
Cheers
Marcin

Subject: Re: [Ubuntu-phone] OTA-13 and Meizu MX4, a lot of
bugs that make this phone unusable
Hi
I m not used to reply to such kind of email, but I'd like to share what's
in my mind... If you don't care (and you've got the right), then drop this
email...
I use my UT phone daily and I m happy with it.
As far as I know UT remains a dev plateform that is constantly beeing
improved, most of the time [1], by remarkable people from UT Community. I
m not an Ubuntu nor Canonical fan to say that, but just a guy thankfull
having the chance to take part in this experience and communicate directly
with developpers that are committed in! Try to do the same with apple or
google...and see wether you get any answer.
Just complaining isn't usefull, but filing bug is better
This mailing list is the right place to ask where to file the bug in
launchpad.
That being said, from my own experience:
- bluetooth: I've fixed most of the pairing issues by cleaning all the BT
devices formerly paired (I mean clicking "Forget this device" first
- Dekko separated smtp imap profile: Fixed by cleaning all accounts and
restart from the beginning. Renaming and backuping dekko conf file may
help:
cp ~/.config/dekko.dekkoproject/dekko.dekkoproject.conf
Documents/dekko.dekkoproject.conf
- the MX4 circle button, see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1627924
Nevertheless, I also agree with the other issues, but we need to be
patient... And try also to reboot your phone, if not already done.
Really hope it'll help you.
Best regards
Wilfrid

Hi list,
I received last Ubuntu Touch upgrade some days ago, now
reached OTA-13, but
I never had before all these problems.
With respect for all the people that had worked on this update, on MX4 is
the worst update that I ever received before. I'm using MX4
from june 2015,
from the european launch.
In this version:
- gps stopped to work and with him all the scopes that using gps;
- hotspot icon stopped to work;
- dekko notification doesn't work, and still remain the issue with
separated profile SMTP and IMAP;
- telegram notification become slower and sometimes doesn't work;
- calendar alarm doesn't work and you can't posticipate the alarm;
- bluetooth never pair with car hands free system starting
from OTA-9 (take
a look here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1539158 );
- the button at the bottom of the screen remain active after screen look.
Also, it's necessary to update the android firmware, because Meizu have
released new firmware based on Android 5 some time ago:
http://www.flymeos.com/firmwarelist?modelId=5&type=1
Also, MX4 users needs the possibility to use the convergence
mode. This is
a top smartphone with a powerfull hardware, like Meizu pro5, but it's not
possible to use the display sharing function.
This email it's not an attack at the people that every day
work on Ubuntu,
but just a point of situation, that right now make this
smartphone unusable.
Thank you,
Marco
