Re: Web Site Screenshots

I understand Keith. Time zones are a pain when it comes to projects like these, but a compromise has to be made if work is to be done as quick and efficient as possible, even though art itself cannot be rushed and those expecting fast results will get... well, fast results not resulting in what they hoped for.

I also agree on the mailing list for those managing the project, to get a general overview of the state of things, but I still defend the idea, that members of the design team directly working on the project should have a way of reaching one another faster than over emails, plus there is a downside to email attachment limitations, as greater files (let's say .PSDs) cannot be sent over email.

For that a shared cloud storage for immediate and effective work on the same file from different locations comes into discussion.I can't think of anything better than Google Drive, although its functionality is limited to platforms in runs on, afaik there is no suitable Drive client for Linux still and there are only a few that share the same functionality, one of which is Copy <http://copy.com>, which I use and works flawlessly on all platforms, mobile included.

A private social media group, since most of use social media, would be an effective and more interactive way of collaboration with live previews and direct discussions in forms of comments, which are more readable than nested email chats in which I personally often get lost, to be honest. Live chat over one of the mentioned communication applications is an even bigger plus.

Please understand, that since we cannot sit in one cosy office and discuss things face to face we have to find other means that suit the work pace.

Some sacrifices will have to be made, but that's the usual case in everything.

Hello Patrik,
I think the mailing list would be the best option with a failback to Skype/Facebook/Hangouts for "real time" communication. I do have and use Skype on occasion.

The mailing list may be the best approach for other forms of communication as we are all on different timezones. I am currently on US EST (GMT -5) as I reside in Miami, Florida.

        Hello Patrik,
With the newly sparked interest between you and Prashant, do
you guys feel that we can take this on and get something done
rather quickly? I am not an artist in any sense but I can
help as a Project Manager and Consultant to ensure that our
        design guidelines are respected.

            Hi everyone,

I am new to the team, but am trying to follow up as much
            as I can.

I know it may seem difficult sometimes to work with me,
since when I work on something I expect the other side to
be as clear about their demands as they can, which I do
realize is not often possible and the industry I am
entering also teaches, but believe me when I say when the
communication is right, and attention to detail is paid,
all work will be done accordingly.

To the website issue, I cannot, nor do I consider myself
a web designer, _yet_. Currently I am taking my
three-months long internship at a local design company,
so practically I am available, not sure to what extent,
            but I am.

I have done a few small web designs and about 3 full
websites in Joomla, but that was years ago. Joomla,
however, is simple and could be an alternative for us -
to take a suitable pre-coded Joomla template and redesign
            that.

I am confident we have many skilled people with us who
know their way around with the code, so Joomla, that is
just like Ubuntu built by the community and with all its
flexibility could be altered to anyone's desires. Then
again I saw the work of some of our designers and again I
am confident, that together we can achieve great things.

_All it takes is proper communication_.

I know we are busy, some of us extremely, and that is why
we have to continue in a massive recruitment campaign to
fill up our ranks. This campaign would involve the
            creation of recruitment banners/posters/other propaganda
material to hire designers to join the cause.

There are many artists who simply don't know where to
fit, then there are those who are yet to experience the
light of the stage, and there are so many art
collectives/websites centred around art that I lost count
of and are the best place to start searching at.

Those being a part of such communities should start
posting blog entries, forum threads and even in the news
section of that site with the approval of admins that we
are looking for people with skill, dedication and the
right amount of enthusiasm for our cause because what we
do is karma, but a good one.

                Hey Team,

            Hi :)

Just saw that we have 13.10 / Gnome 3.8 screenshots
                up at http://ubuntugnome.org/screenshots/.

Please can we get these updatedwhenever you have
                some time

                Thanks :)

The whole website MUST be changed and it seems no one is
following up with this issue. While I didn't give up
yet, I feel my efforts to chase this issue is
helpless/useless as neither the marketing nor the
artwork sub-teams are following up. Above all, I have
not yet seen a serious draft to replace the current website.

I highly understand real life comes first (myself was
and still busy with), this task was pending for more
than one cycle and if I remember correctly, we wanted to
do that from 14.04 cycle. It means 3 cycles so far ...
            that's way too much!
