Re: Seeking feedback on Android U1 app

Hello Tomas,

Thank you for your input! Let me answer you one issue at a time:

First of all, you will find more info on the project on the proposal page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/GSoC/2010/MichalKarnicki
as well as feature specs page (in a somewhat brainstorm-like style)
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/specs/UbuntuOneForAndroid

On the first page you will see, that the sync feature is to be implemented
as the last one, since it's most demanding; or, anyway, we need some basis
first :D

On the second page, in the ''BoF agenda and discussion'' section you will
find, that I have been already taking into consideration different modes of
sync, depending on the connection type/data plan/sync mode. Here, the stars
may be treated as the semi sync mode (syncs only selected (favourite)
files)).

Indeed, it is for multi selection of files/directories - on average, I'd
guess smartphones have ~2GB card, which is little for a 2GB U1 sync plus
your regular phone data (not to mention a sync of 50GB plan, right ;) ?).
The starred files/dirs should stay synced whenever something changes in the
cloud.

I was also considering making a general-purpose special folder ~/Ubuntu
One/Android to always sync it with the phone, but not only you have 'stars'
and can pick any file, but you may be interested in syncing (over WIFI) a
folder like 'My Music', which is not under ~/U1/Android. All in all,
starring elements seems to fit well into Android theme. However, as I have
mentioned on the wiki, I might deliver full sync mode some day, which is
what you're asking for :)

Just answered this one ^

It'd be sufficient to star that folder beforehand. Starred directories would
'star' it's contents automatically. So, for example, music you drop in My
music UDF (starred) would sync automatically (or any other starred UDF).

Will be included in future versions :) Good point! (check out the specs
wiki)

Definitely yes my friend, I am happy you mentioned it. It's one of the first
features I thought of when I decided to take on this project. Check out "Use
cases" and "BoF agenda -> Easy sharing" point here:

I also can't wait hahah :) You can be sure I will post updates to this list
when I'll need alfa/beta/any testers :)

I appreciate your mail, thank you!

Mike
