I understand the irony. At times, I have to read my email in bulks. I
get a very large amount of messages every day. I try to read through all
emails on this list so that I can offer the bits of advise and input I'm
able to. That means I also get the religious messages in bulk, when I'm
trying to focus on Ubuntu. We organize our emails so that we can focus
on one task at a time, and therefore get through as quickly as possible.
When such a large number of emails contains a "message from my sponsor",
it's advertisement. I am annoyed by "send from my..."-messages as well.
But when the message is religion, it's even worse.
I've responded in-thread, I've sent personal messages... This was just a
final attempt at getting the message across once and for all why
religion has no place here. Because I've started marking folders as read
without reading them, and I don't want that to happen.
It's also worth noting that these lists are on the web, making the
content searchable. Either everyone should include a reference to their
religion, or noone should. Otherwise, search results are skewed,
portraying our community as something it isn't. Of course, if everyone
started doing it, then we'd be fermenting differences and off-topic
would grow completely out of control.
There are messages that are off-topic for Unity, but on-topic for
Ubuntu. It would be nice if we could limit that as well. But that's
another issue.
