Over lunch I thought that the math would be more complicated, and did some, but in sum, I agree that transportation money is not a strong argument. I think we could argue that, if Benji drove separately from F'burg and Brad and I carpooled with Danilo and Graham, it would come out to an average of $153 for the three Americans, if you don't add any of the driving cost to the Europeans.
Hotel would be a somewhat better argument: six nights of individual hotel rooms for five people @ $150/night = $4500. We could probably share a pretty nice beach house at that time of year, each with our own room, for half that. <shrug>
