I attach a quick-n-dirty mockup of a visual design for how this can be suggested. - The file icon is given a frame on mouse over like the one in the mockup, a box with a drag handle on its side. - Clicking on the drag handle will select the file. - Single-clicking on the icon will open the file. - Dragging anywhere on the icon or file handle will begin a drag-and-drop.
