For what it's worth I now got this 3810tz. I think it is a bit less noisy than the 3810tg, but personally I still would consider this laptop far from quiet, although I've learned that some people (but not all) feel quite differently about this. I'd like to be able to listen to, say, Jason Molina and not be able to hear the fan. This is clearly not the case with this laptop.
Up to now it doesn't seem to be much too slow to me; hq fullscreen youtube and much more so vimeo videos don't run smoothly but I guess I can live with that. I run the cpu heavy stuff mostly on other computers anyway.
