Re: Translations - Arabic name of months

Dear all

I'm coming back to the Egypt version of the Arabic translation. Could you please create an "ar_EG" locale as a fork as suggested?

Regards,
David

That sounds like the way it should work :-)

The easiest way is simply to create an "ar_EG" locale. If the translations
do not exist in "ar_EG", it will fall back to "ar" and if they do not exist
there , it will fall back to English. So, if all that needs to be done in
this case, is to translate the month names, then it should be pretty
straightforward.

I wonder what would be the smartest way of building on (and feeding
back into) the existing Arabic translation work. I guess the simplest
approach would be just to make a copy (fork) of Arabic on the
translation server and change the months. But given the bulk of the
similarity one feels there must be a better way. eg. to focus solely
on the Arabic po and have a small patch script to generate the
Egyptian version?

Hi David,

We would need to create a new language for you (Arabic Egypt) and you
would
need to translate it there. These strings are not translatable through
the
user interface.

We maintain a translation site here
(http://translate.dhis2.org/projects/dhis2-translations/) which the
community can use to make translations. Once the translations are
complete
(or as complete as you like them), we (meaning the core development
team)
would need to commit these back to the source code.

If you would like to proceed with this, I can set up things for you.

Best regards,
Jason

Dear all

Egypt uses normal ISO 8601 calendar months, but the months displayed in
DHIS2 are not common in Egypt (https://i.imgur.com/bowYfyv.png).
The months that are common are (Jan - Dec):

يناير , فبراير , مارس , إبريل , مايو , يونيو , يوليو , أغسطس , سبتمبر ,
أكتوبر , نوفمبر , ديسمبر

How would I go on to translate these? Do I have to create a
dhis2-language
Arabic (Egypt) which uses all Arabic resources except the months?

Best regards
David
