Hi there,
an other possible layer toolbar a little less colourful.

Hi Fabrizio,

Here's my 5 cents (sorry for quality of the drawing, it's just a quick sketch). The idea is based on your proposal, with some extra stuff added: - wide & narrow mode - in wide mode, full layer names and checkboxes are displayed. This is the preferred mode for a beginner user, who doesn't know all the shortcuts. The price to pay is screen area occupied by the widget. In narrow mode, there are only small buttons, and the toolbar can be docked both horizontally (like in Altium) and vertically (CAM350-like). This is the mode for advanced users (I usually switch toolbars off or reduce them to a necessary minimum to maximize the design view area). The mode can be switched with an additional small "Expand" button. - L-click selects the layer, R-click opens a context menu, allowing for setting colors, names, aliases, etc. (and also points to other layer-related tasks, such as stackup config dialog). - each Layer/Render object provides selection between outline/filled mode, since the GAL/VIEW allow for controlling drawing mode independently for every type of item. - wide mode includes some extra GAL settings - i.e. layer transparency & contrast (via scrollbars on the bottom of the layer palette). - render tab can be extended with zones & dimensions (removing some buttons from the left toolbar and bringing all visibility settings to a single place).

Regards,
Tom
