In addition to Martin Packman's comments (thank you), I got back this
reply from Edward.

I'm out tomorrow, and my squad is trying to tie things up before the
holidays and before we switch to feature work when we return.  Could
someone else step up to help Edward?

Right.  I should have said bzr remove.

This would have been helpful months ago, but there have been hundreds,
if not thousands of commits since the initial mistake.  I need an
automated way of getting the job done, without risking mistakes, and
still retaining history.
