Just FYI.

The problem is much more complicated than just changing the backend of
GUI toolkits.
Some desktop features, such as window manager related tasks, desktop
panel, and even the xsettings daemon now relies on X11 heavily.
Unless there are ways to use them in MIR, porting existing apps to MIR
is impossible.
Even with the transition to Wayland, the freedesktop.org specs need to
be improved so they can be used outside X11. I'm waiting the
KDE/Qt/Gnome/GTK+ guys to solve it.
Before these problems are solved, porting to any platform is not possible.
I believe that KDE, Gnome, and XFCE face exactly the same problem, so
at least they will make things work for Wayland in the future and we
can use their solution, too.
If they, however, don't try to make existing specs work with MIR, then
MIR is orphaned and only Unity is using it. Then it will just be
wasting our time to work on MIR ports.
Let's wait and see before making any decisions.
Some basic problems need to be solved first. It's too early to say if
MIR will be successful.
For me, I see no point in duplicating the display server without
providing obvious benefit.
