Re: [PPC] Software Update Fail on installed 13.10 system

Hi Phil,

I misunderstood your original message. I thought you were referring only to the Live ISO's.

I already had 13.10 installed on my hard drive. I was running it when I got the chance. I ran Software Update daily to check for updates and keep it current. That went fine until yesterday. Yesterday's updates broke the installation.

But now I got it. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Hi,

the reason I cancelled the PPC testing last weekend is that I had been told the new kernel would kill PPC machines. I offered the advice to grab the then desktop ISO before it got updated. The work on the kernel is specifically planned and I will update everyone when I have more news.

Regards,

Phill.

Can you use

SysRq  R E I S U B

to make the reboot softer with your Power PC?

Often but not always, SysRq is on the PrintScreen key (with the alt
key), so it is often described as

alt+SysRq  R E I S U B

See this link

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key

Quote {
1. Hold down the Alt and SysRq (Print Screen) keys.
2. While holding those down, type the following keys in order, several
seconds apart: REISUB
3. Computer should reboot.
}

Just my two cents
