That's exactly the point. By providing an extension interface people can
add the capabilities they want and need, without the core team having to
worry (too much) about it. It's like asking what rhythmbox plugins are good
for. If I have the choice, I'd prefer not to have a potentially arbitrarily
large number of calculator apps installed, each with a partially
overlapping feature set.
