well, you would have done all your building already and be sure your
binary works once you roll that final package.

IMHO the cross building comes into play way earlier than for actually
building a package ... (i usually don't roll packages for debugging and
test building code, but just roll them once i'm confident the "upstream
code" is fine)

using the binary package should just become a final smoke test once you
feel you are completely done coding.
