I'm in this camp as well. I know I've changed my iOS or Android background
to something rather unpleasant and quickly changed it to something else.

The challenge I see here is that unless we give some set of backgrounds for
people to use other than one default non-changeable choice, it is bad user
experience. As some else mentioned, it's likely a matter of personal taste.
I HATE white backgrounds unless I'm reading in the middle of the day. I
particularly hate white backgrounds at night, even with brightness turned
down.

Can someone from design jump on this thread and walk us through what the
plan is?
