I am using peervpn [1] to get a fixed ip address to connect to with X.
And the peervpn software uses it's default gateway to build up the mesh
network.
( when using peervpn, it does not matter if you use wifi, UMTS. USB or
something else, you ip address is always the same )
So, using the PC as the default gateway i will get a low latency
connection between the PC and the phone.
