It looks like you really don't want to do what I have proposed.  Why
don't you just commit whatever you think is best and sign off, and I
will take care of the rest?

The reason I have been asking you to do it is so that you have the
commits and the credit for yourself.  The work that you have done in
understanding the issue is very valuable.  But, without doing commits,
you won't have anything to show for it.
