    Well, it would be really easy to write a plugin that opens the
    image with application that has created it. Very similar to what
    we do with the equation editor. Equations are also images, but
    when you edit them, the related latex file is opened.


P.S. if you use an editor that saves SVG images, e.g. Inkscape (which is not optimized for flowcharts, but can do them as well), you can simply insert the images and use the "Open With" menu item to open again with the editor of choice.

Quick search on freecode.com <http://freecode.com> doesn't show up much tools for this. Maybe there is a niche for a simple SVG editor that is optimized for flowcharts and similar diagrams ?
