Ah, I didn't even know that was a feature really. I know markdown and wikimedia syntax, but not zim wiki syntax though I probably use it the most! Thinking about it.... I suppose when I type "[]" or "*" and it converts to a checkbox or bullet, I am taking advantage of that feature. But, as you say, I immediately see the change. I've never wanted to do this (unlike double curlies) but I then wonder how would I begin a line with a literal '[]' or '*'? I appreciate we are probably in a very narrow use case.
