Re: Random freezes and optional kernel parameters

I have UL30VT-QX073V.

Unfortunately I found nothing useful in dmesg or kern.log or messages logs.
I browsed many places of logs when freezes did happen.

Usually the log looks like:

Oct 22 14:54:18 homebook kernel: [12526.985221] sr 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0 Oct 22 14:54:18 homebook kernel: [12526.985366] sr 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 5 Oct 22 15:21:33 homebook kernel: imklog 4.2.0, log source = /proc/kmsg started.

where freeze happened at Oct 22 15:19:XX (who knows when)

Now I am logging all freezes manually. Actually they are happening 2-4 times a day. Later I will do analysis of all issues at once.

Which log for Xorg should I study? Worg.log also contains no any EE or suspicious info.

What is also noticeable that I am also observe multiple and often segfaults for different applications and various libs.

can you submit a bug report to bugs.launchpad.net just after reboot
from a freeze?
the dmesg.log file should contain useful information, but
alternatively, if it's a xserver
freeze like it probably is, you can automatically upload all the
relevant log info by using this command line:

apport-bug xserver-org

My UL30a-x5 freezes like that perhaps two to three times per week and
must be rebooted. Not often enough for me to worry about it overmuch;
it generally happens after many hours of operation and does not seem
to be getting worse in any way. Thus, it's a relatively minor
inconvenience--but I'd love to get to the bottom of it.

I have toyed with the idea of compiling a custom kernel for it but
simply haven't gotten around to it. I'll move within the next 48 hours
or so from a late beta of Kubuntu Maverick to the release version--but
it did the same thing with earlier versions as well.
