I agree with this for submissions and story discussion.
I don't agree with this for operational discussions.

I agree with this up to the point where it doesn't produce noise.

Well, I for one unsubscribe from lists that have noise because I have too
much email to deal with. Hence I make heavy use of announce lists or lists
with targeted communications that I almost alway want to, or need to, read.
This is why combiningn operational items into a general list does not work
for me. I have no plans to subscribe to a news discussion list since I'm
interested in the operational aspects of the fridge including administration.
However, if everyone else is ok with this and I'm the oddball, that shouldn't
be the reason to not go forward and merge everything into a big super list.
