Agreed. Part of this problem is communication. Beyond the left/right
issue, there is a bigger problem. Uncertainty. There is a belief that
ALL themes are going to change including retroactive changes to Human,
etc. Some places dispute this and just state that it's the new themes
only. However, the fact all themes have changed, even existing ones,
tends to dispute this. But now, there are assertions that this is a bug
and will be fixed. No one knows what the grand plan is or if they do,
it hasn't been stated authoritatively. This is part of what is causing
the chaos.

Ignoring the issue at hand, I think the new themes are spectacular.
They give a far more polished feel to the UI. It's unfortunate, that
reordering the buttons destroys the look. Combined with the other
branding changes, I think this a very positive move for the desktop. It
would be a shame for all this potential marketing momentum to be lost
over a whim of the designers.

I can sit here and say I don't like the changes, but it's irrelevant.
It's an opinion. What is needed are facts and a cost/benefit analysis.
I think the cost is pretty clear at this point.
