I agree with Florent.

It's ok, by default the launcher must be never hide, I prefer this behavior for newbies.

But I don't think alway hide is a good option.

In my case, I prefer use Unity without launcher when a software is maximized, but I don't like see desktop screen wihtout launcher.

We can check easily if we've emails, updates, tweets or see ubuntu one activity when the launcher is on desktop screen.

My two cents.

And I apologize if my english is bad...

Hi,
I am in the same use case : I need the launcher to hide while a maximized app is running, and only because my screen is small. To me, it is easier to switch between many small windows when the launcher is shown, so I have been using "dodge active window" for as long as this option is available in unity. My only complaint about the launcher was its sensitivity, but it seems this will be fixed by the new reveal method.

I understand "always show the launcher" is the best option to many people who encounter difficulties figuring the desktop could be actually larger and deeper than the screen surface. I have personnaly installed Ubuntu desktops for people with these difficulties, and set the launcher reveal option to "never hide", with accessibility in mind. I think this has to be the default option.

But do we really need to bring this limitation to everyone's desktop ?

"Alway hide" is ugly on an empty desktop, and how does a new user find the launcher on a random Ubuntu desktop already configured with this behaviour ? More : it seems highly inefficient while using many small windows.

My point : you cannot keep 2 beginners launcher reaveal mode ("never hide and "always hide") and simply drop the "intellihide" one. If you keep some kind of autohide, make it more advanced, to always optimize the desktop space/efficiency (according to Fitts's law). Advanced users will thank you.

I am really sorry for my bad english.
