I think you'd be a happier camper using one of the more recent bzr
releases, such as 1.10 or 1.11:

Bazaar is moving /fast/ and the stability is fantastic -- you should be
happy to run it with the signed archive in your apt config.

This message is actually a bug in old bzr versions ;-)

It will be faster with a more recent release. It will also be faster
once we upgrade our vcs-import repository formats to a newer one --
something that we're working on.
