Hi Jack,
Thank you it looks like the updates don't mess it up, and your jwmrc doesn't mess it up.
So now on to pcmanfm.
You should have 2 files in:
~/.config/pcmanfm/default/
desktop-items-0.conf
and pcmanfm.conf
send those my way and we can perhaps get to the bottom of this issue once and for all.
