Free Geek and reselling computers with Ubuntu

You guys should check out http://FreeGeek.org. The reuse market is huge for Ubuntu. FreeGeek is doing some amazing work with free, and Free, refurbished computers. Their computers are free for volunteers, cheap for shoppers, 3-5 years behind "new", and they all come with a year of free tech support on their preinstalled Ubuntu system.

This is admittedly an advantage to Ubuntu in that it can run really well and

driving this forward as a key feature or advantage to Ubuntu. Ubuntu will become associated as a method of just fixing up old computers and not one to use on new ones. Wouldn't this give us the same image as say Windows 2000?

Working a miracle on the 'old spare laptop' is a potential *major* market for second market installs of Ubuntu. It has been a gift from the Microsoft gods, who produced Vista which was frequently sold on inadequate machines. This advantage has a best use by date. Soon.
