server

From a personal point of view:

a) a server with a smartphone is a necessity - especially if it's going to be the main computing device and b) a secure and private NAS would be the ideal solution - and making that easy to set up and operate would be very attractive (especially to non-techies, like me!)

Well said.
Of all the things I was surprised to see abandoned, U1 was the most

That said, Owncloud is pretty killer and so good now that it would seem
to make sense for developers to simply power out a bunch of owncloud

i think if you asked the people on thelst if they would pay for this

for instance id pay a yearly subscription or monthly right now if i
could have that facility - specially if it was built into apps
i use owncloud its messy, works but not ideal
please if you would pay for this comment and it might be worth getting
this feature back now when its neeeded more than ever now
worked great for me wheile i had it
I think U1 was probably ahead of it's time. Canonical need it now, not
back then. Personally I couldn't pay for it right now but I wouldn't
be against the idea once I've got myself sorted out.
