Re: Changes to the sound menu registration process for Natty

Hi Vsevolod,

This is not recommended by the spec I'm afraid. The spec clearly states that players should only add themselves to the menu after they have been used. If you are unhappy with this behaviour, I would suggest filing a bug. I meet with the spec owner sometime this week.

Hello all,

Conor, is there any way to perform the opposite process — pre-register
some application in sound menu? At the moment the only pre-registered
application is banshee and the others are automatically registered
after the first start of application, but the better way would be to
allow application register itself somehow.
E.g. for Messages Menu you can now place a file with desktop-file
location into /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications/.
However, similar way with 'sound' instead of 'messages' doesn't work.

I suppose it'll be the nice way — to register new sound player just
by creating the file (or by some post-inst script) so user can just
start new player from sound menu rather than searching for it in main
applications menu.

Best wishes and have a nice day,

How about using a dbus call or property to opt-out the appearing in the
Sound Menu?
I can do this dbus method very easily if people want. I know Bertrand that
Banshee is still waiting on Mono bindings for GSettings.
In the release that goes out today (0.5.7) I have put in place a mock dbus
method under com.canonical.indicators.sound to do the necessaries.

BlackMediaPlayer ( string desktopname_minus_extension, bool blacklist);

Thoughts ?
