Re: SDK planning
I agree on this too. I think grid view is a good way to display data when in landscape or wider displays.Normal list items just won't look good stretched in these scenarios. I'm actually planning to create my own for my Talaan app.It would be a great help to have a standard component. :)

Subject: Re: [Ubuntu-phone] SDK planning
Hello guys,
This had been discussed long ago with the design, that probably a GridItem component similar to ListItem would be needed, which could be used in Grid/GridViews. But then because there was no clear design on how the layouts would look like in general, they postponed the idea. Maybe we should bring those back now ;) (Femma included)

Hello Andrew,
I will ping the design team and check with the rest of the SDK guys today this case. Sounds a solid use case, let's see what others have to say.
See you on IRC,

Hi Zoltan,
The music-app heavily uses GridView's and we currently have a custom 'Card' component [0], which does not support keyboard shortcuts, multi-selection, actions etc (think of things like multi-selecting albums to play or queue). Furthermore we did start investigating it we could move it to a SlotLayout but that has not been implemented yet, so a UITK optimised solution would be preferred :-)
It would be great to see such a component in the UITK, feel free to ping me on IRC if you want to discuss in greater detail.
Thanks,
Andrew

Hello Stefano,
Thank you for your response. Your idea to create a grid view item similar to the new list item is cool and we will discuss about it today with the guys.
The driving force of the UI Toolkit development are the applications. So it would support this idea a lot if you could describe few exact use cases where this component would be used.

Hi Zoltan,
Thanks for sharing those informations... I'm looking forward for the
new components.
However, there's a request/idea I'd like to propose.
With UITK 1.2 a new ListItem component has been introduced. It
provides an attached property which makes life easier when we have to
deal with dragging gestures, items selection, and so on...
I would like to know if there's some plan for having a similar
component for grid views - let's call it AbstractCardItem - which
provides the same helpers.
Cheers,
Stefano
