I haven't been following this until recently. However, this doesn't seem
to be a flaw in the design of an app but instead should be something
addressed by the OS/toolkit, so every app behaves in the same way.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think the toolkit already addresses
this: the back button is only shown if there are levels to return to, so
if the email page was pushed as the only page, the back button would
never even be shown, and there would be no cause for confusion.
