Re: Session management in the dash

I agree. Ctrl+Alt+Del should bring a small overlay window with several items in it, and the user should be able to move the focus in there with cursor keys. I believe that would be the best implementation. Then, all you'd have to do is press Ctrl+Alt+Del, press left or right or up or down and press return. The reason Dash is there is to start an application and if "Shutdown" will show up first when "sh" is typed, then it would make things much slower when I try to start an application that starts with "sh". Many people WILL end up turning their systems off when all they tried to is start an application. This will apply to all other sessions actions that will be in Dash (logout, restart, etc).

Then there should be a way to blacklist things on a per-user basis that a user like myself does not want cluttering my Dash when I type "sh" for things other than "shutdown".

Moreover, for me it is faster to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and click the dialog than it is to sift through things that begin with "sh" in the Dash on my personal system. Conversely, the Ctrl+Alt+Del method does not pose clutter with other items beginning with "sh".

I disagree, these actions (shutdown, restart, etc) *should* be available in the dash. This is something I've been waiting for since 11.04, ten months ago.

Why? Because winkey+"sh"+enter is an order of magnitude faster for me, compared to reaching for the mouse, clicking an icon, selecting a menu option and clicking a dialog button (all in different locations of the screen). I expect most heavy keyboard users will feel the same.

If you don't like typing "shutdown", feel free to not type "shutdown" and use the cog instead. That cog option is always there - there's absolutely no reason to remove the alternative dash option.
