Yes, I made a mistake.
Thanks.

No, I don't own a PMD.

Well, I use Gentoo Linux and both the x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel and
libdrm (intel) packages are installed on my system.

Excuse me for the question: but do you use sony-laptop-zseries or the
kernel built in module?
(I use the zseries one)

In any case with the following settings Linux works (without the
brightness control):

CONFIG_DRM_I915=y
CONFIG_DRM_KMS_HELPER=y
# CONFIG_DRM_I915_KMS is not set

sony-laptop-zseries-0.9np8

With these, instead, it doesn't work and it ends with a blank screen
after flashing twice:
# cat /etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf
options i915 modeset=1

Kernel configuration:
CONFIG_DRM_I915=m
CONFIG_DRM_KMS_HELPER=m
CONFIG_DRM_I915_KMS=y

sony-laptop-zseries-0.9np8

Of course it is not possible to reboot using SysRq keys.
And this is making me angry.

It seems to be KMS the culprit.

The strange fact is that between an attempt to boot and another, the
system starts normally with the second configuration, even if the screen
is still blinking before KDM starts. So there still is someting that
goes wrong, actually,
when KDE has started, if I try to do CTRL+ALT+F1 this is what I see:
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/809/img0404je.jpg/

I can kill X using CTRL+ALT+Backspace and relogin into KDE (screen brightness
works here).

This is the dmesg http://pastebin.com/1pJWt5NG
(see lines 1131-1137)

Xorg.0.log: http://pastebin.com/uzpHPsHQ
(fbdev which seems to be missing, but even installing it, doesn't
solve the problem)

dmesg and Xorg.0.log after installing fbdev:
http://pastebin.com/NvRrCyJF
http://pastebin.com/WgFxxCay

Next reboot: screen blinking -> blank screen and no KDE(KDM) ->forced shutdown.
Next reboot: blank screen
Next reboot: same as shown in the screenshot above.

One time it goes one time not (even if it doesn't work well when it starts). O_O

Thank you.

Bast regards,
